The history of cornbread in the South

The history of cornbread in the South by The Secret Ingredient: How Mayonnaise Takes Southern Cornbread

Cornbread holds a special place in Southern cuisine, with a rich history dating back centuries. Native American’s such as the Cherokee and Creek, were the first to cultivate corn and incorporate it into their diets.

Cornbread quickly became a staple food, thanks to its versatility and simplicity. As European settlers arrived in the South, they adopted and adapted cornbread recipes to suit their tastes and available ingredients.

Over time, cornbread evolved into a beloved staple, with each region boasting its own unique variations. From skillet cornbread to cornbread muffins, this humble dish has become synonymous with Southern comfort food.

The traditional Southern cornbread recipes vary from state to state and even household to household. Whether it’s the use of white or yellow cornmeal, buttermilk, or regular milk. Some bakers add sugar. But every recipe has its own distinct qualities.

However, there’s one secret ingredient that has been making waves in the Southern cornbread scene: mayonnaise. Now that the secret is out, wow your guest by taking your Southern cornbread to new heights.

From classic mayo-based salads like coleslaw and potato salad to tangy sauces and dressings, mayonnaise is a beloved condiment in the South.

But its role doesn’t end there. In recent years, mayonnaise has been making its mark in the world of cornbread, revolutionizing the way this classic dish is prepared and enjoyed.

The science behind using mayonnaise in cornbread

The science behind using mayonnaise in cornbread by The Secret Ingredient: How Mayonnaise Takes Southern Cornbread to New Heights!

You might be wondering how mayonnaise can transform a simple Southern cornbread recipe into something extraordinary. The answer lies in the science behind it.

Mayonnaise is made from a combination of oil, egg yolks, vinegar or lemon juice, and seasonings. When added to cornbread batter, the oil in the mayo helps create a tender and moist texture. While the egg yolks contribute to the bread’s richness and structure.

The acidity from the vinegar or lemon juice enhances the flavor and balances the sweetness of the cornmeal. The result is a cornbread that is incredibly moist, tender, and flavorful, with a slight tang that keeps you coming back for more.

How mayonnaise enhances the texture of cornbread

How mayonnaise enhances the texture of cornbread from The Secret Ingredient: How Mayonnaise Takes Southern Cornbread to New Heights!

One of the key benefits of using mayonnaise in Southern cornbread is its ability to enhance the texture. Traditional cornbread can sometimes be dry and crumbly, but the secret addition of mayonnaise ensures a moist and tender crumb.

The oil in the mayo adds moisture to the batter, preventing the cornbread from drying out during baking. It also helps create a soft, velvety texture that melts in your mouth.

The richness from the egg yolks provides a luxurious mouthfeel, making each bite incredibly satisfying. With mayonnaise, you’ll never have to worry about dry or crumbly cornbread again.

Tips for incorporating mayonnaise into your cornbread recipe

Tips for incorporating mayonnaise into your cornbread recipe

Now that you understand the benefits of using mayonnaise in cornbread, it’s time to put that knowledge into action. Here are some tips to help you incorporate mayo into your cornbread recipe:

1. Use full-fat mayonnaise: To achieve the best results, opt for full-fat mayonnaise. The higher fat content contributes to a richer and more tender cornbread.

2. Adjust the liquid ingredients: Since mayonnaise adds moisture to the batter, you may need to adjust the amounts of other liquid ingredients, such as milk or buttermilk. Start with the original recipe and gradually add the mayo, checking the consistency of the batter as you go.

3. Experiment with assorted flavors: While classic mayonnaise works wonders in cornbread, don’t be afraid to get creative. Try flavored mayonnaise, such as chipotle or garlic, to add a unique twist to your cornbread. Just make sure the flavors complement the other ingredients.

4. Don’t overmix the batter: When incorporating the mayonnaise into the cornbread batter, be careful not to overmix. Overmixing can lead to a tough and dense texture. Gently fold in the mayo until just combined, ensuring a light and fluffy cornbread.

Guess what? I do not use eggs or oil now in my Southern cornbread because the mayonnaise takes the place of those two ingredients.

Variations and adaptations of mayonnaise cornbread

Honey and Cornbread

While the addition of mayonnaise to cornbread is already a notable change, there are endless possibilities for variations and adaptations. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

1. Cheesy mayonnaise cornbread: Take your cornbread to the next level by adding a generous amount of shredded cheese to the batter along with the mayo. The melted cheese adds a gooey, savory element that pairs perfectly with the creamy cornbread.

2. Bacon and jalapeno mayo cornbread: For those who enjoy a little heat, mix crumbled bacon and diced jalapenos into the mayo before adding it to the batter. This spicy and smoky twist will have your taste buds dancing with delight.

3. Sweet and tangy mayo cornbread muffins: If you prefer a sweeter cornbread, add a touch of honey or maple syrup to the mayonnaise before incorporating it into the batter. The combination of sweet and tangy flavors creates a delightful balance that is sure to please.

Other creative uses for mayonnaise in Southern cuisine

Mayonnaise’s versatility extends beyond cornbread. In Southern cuisine, this creamy condiment is a pantry staple that finds its way into countless dishes. Here are a few other creative uses for mayonnaise in Southern cooking:

1. Deviled eggs: Mayonnaise is the star ingredient in classic deviled eggs. Its creamy texture and tangy flavor create the perfect base for the filling, making each bite irresistibly delicious.

2. Po’ boy sandwiches: A traditional New Orleans po’ boy sandwich is incomplete without a generous slather of mayo. It adds richness and moisture to the sandwich, complementing the crispy seafood or tender roast beef.

3. Pimento cheese: The iconic Southern spread, pimento cheese, gets its creamy consistency from mayonnaise. The mayo binds together the shredded cheese, pimentos, and other flavorings, creating a creamy and tangy delight.

The debate: mayonnaise vs. other ingredients in cornbread

While mayonnaise has proven itself as a worthy contender for enhancing cornbread, there are still debates about the best ingredients to use.

Some argue that buttermilk or sour cream can achieve comparable results, while others swear by the magic of mayonnaise.

It comes down to personal preference. Each ingredient brings its own unique qualities to the table, resulting in slightly assorted flavors and textures.

It’s worth experimenting with different variations to find the perfect cornbread that suits your taste buds.

Conclusion: Elevate your cornbread with the secret ingredient

Blue Plate Mayo

In conclusion, mayonnaise is the secret ingredient that takes Southern cornbread to new heights. Its creamy texture, tangy flavor, and ability to enhance the texture make it a notable change in the world of cornbread.

Whether you’re a purist who prefers a classic recipe or an adventurous cook looking to experiment with variations, mayonnaise is sure to elevate your cornbread to a whole new level of deliciousness.

The Joy Of Baking

The Joys of Baking was one of the many things my mom taught me. She is the one that got me into baking.

I can remember licking the bowl after she was done making a cake. I’m not exactly sure why I was doing that, but I’m sure it was because it tasted good.

I don’t know how old I was, and I don’t remember it being something that my mom made me do.

She thought I did it on my own, but I don’t know. The point is that she taught me how to bake, and it has become a passion of mine.

The Joys of Baking for me are all thanks to my mom. She was an awesome mom, baker, and cook.

Because of My Mom

Mom and Daughter Baking

Because of my mom, I love to bake for my family for many reasons. For me, I love to see the anticipation on their faces as they wait for me to reveal the finished product.

I cherish how much fun we have sitting around the table enjoying a meal together. I enjoy hearing their excited chatter as they dig into their dessert first and then move on to savor other parts of their meal. Baking makes me happy!

I Believe Baking is a Joyful Activity

Santa Claus Cake

Baking is just as joyful an activity as it is practical. I believe everyone should bake, whether you cook or not, and you don’t have to be a professional pastry chef.

The techniques I have learned and mastered over years of baking have improved my cooking skills as well as my baking skills. Or it’s the other way around; my cooking skills have improved my baking skills.

The Joys of Baking is My Passion for Baking

Boy Enjoying His Food

I can say without hesitation that my passion for baking has brought me a lot of joy in my life, especially when I bake for my family. It gives me such a sense of accomplishment when I get in my kitchen and create something I know that my family is going to love.

When they sit down and dig in and I see the look of satisfaction on their faces, well there is nothing in this world like the feeling I get when that happens.

My Eleven-Year-Old Granddaughter

Recipe Book

I have an eleven-year-old granddaughter that loves to bake as well. So, for Christmas, I made her a recipe book with a lot of my recipes to get her started on her baking journey. Some of the recipes I passed on to her were from my mom and my grandmother.

She absolutely loves it! It makes me proud to know that I can pass along family recipes to my granddaughter. I know she will do remarkable things with them as well because she has a passion for baking, as I do.

I Encourage You to Continue Your Journey…

Lady Rolling Out Dough

If you love to bake or just starting out, I encourage you to continue your journey with baking. There is nothing more satisfying and fulfilling than to create a dessert, dish, etc., and watch the people you love to enjoy the fruits of your labor. This is what the joy of baking is all about.

Will You Make Mistakes Along the Way…?

Baking Mistakes

Will you make mistakes along the way with your baking? Of course, you will! That is just part of the learning process. I have been baking for 47 years and still make mistakes from time to time.

It just goes with the territory. But whatever you do, don’t give up and quit, just start over again and use this as a learning curve. It can be frustrating I know, but the next time you won’t make the same mistake again.

Baking is My Passion…

Baking Is My Passion

I hope that you will acquire a passion for baking as I have. It will bring joy to your life as it has mine. Once you get bitten by the “baking bug,” there is no turning back.

You will love the feeling of knowing that you have made a dish or dessert, that your family is going to love, then the passion and joy of baking will be in your blood.

When you see the look of pure satisfaction on their faces, you will know what I mean.

The reason you should do this is that the weight of these ingredients can vary from brand to brand and type to type.

Seventh, Mix all your ingredients together very well. You will need to do this before adding more of the ingredients. I will stress this here, follow your recipe to the letter for the best results!

14 Things About Baking You Don’t Know

Baking Supplies

** This post also contains affiliate links, and I will be compensated if you purchase a product after clicking on a link. Thank you!

14 Things About Baking You Don’t Know is a fascinating process that yields delicious results. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced baker, there’s always something new to learn. So here are 14 Things About Baking You Don’t Know Enjoy!

1. Baking is a Science

The Science of Baking Is Part Of 14 Things About Baking You Don't Know

14 Things About Baking You Don’t Know is absolutely a science as well as an art. When you add flour, sugar, eggs, oil, etc., you must do this in a sequence of steps that bring you to the same ending, something edible every time.

As a baker, we can think of ourselves as chemists and scientists. Why may you ask? We add different ingredients together in a sequence of steps to create delicious goodies. If done correctly, you can bake it repeatedly.

So, to sum this up, “baking is simply a form of chemistry that results in edible results rather than other chemical solutions or creations.” This quote was brought to you by Delighted Cooking

2. Baking is an Art

Baking Is an Art Another One Part Of 14 Things About Baking You Don't Know

Why is Baking considered an art? Think about this for a moment; if you are adding all these ingredients together and making, let’s say, a cake from scratch, then you are creating art! By the time you cook your cake frost it and decorate it, you have created a beautiful piece of edible art.🎂

We, as bakers, can be compared to an artist who paints or artists that sculpt. A painter creates beautiful pictures for us to look at and enjoy using paintbrushes of assorted sizes and paints of assorted colors.

Sculptors create beautiful pieces of statues, bowls, animals, etc., using molding clay and a variety of tools to shape and mold their sculptures. And they use a firing process for baking clay or sculpture. We bake our goodies just like they do, except we use an oven. 😉

3. Baking is a Trade

Baking is a Trade is another one of the 14 Things About Baking You Don't Know

If you love to bake, why not make a career out of it, and do something you enjoy? Of course, this may require a certification that you can usually obtain by doing an apprenticeship. You can get these through bakeries that offer training such as Publix, Kroger, Ingles, and technical or community college programs to help you obtain an associate degree or certificate. Usually, a college degree is not needed. 👩

Steps to becoming a baker:

  1. Obtain your apprenticeship- through bakeries such as Publix, Kroger, Ingels, and technical or community college programs.
  2. Obtain a business degree- do this only if you are interested in opening your own bakery. You can do this by taking courses in small business management through a continuing education program.
  3. Getting your Certification– certification is not usually a requirement by most employers, however, if you obtain your certification, it will put you ahead of the competition.
  4. Attain additional experience– if you want to advance your career, gain more experience. Learn different techniques and skills that will lead you to own your own business and create high-quality products that you can be proud of.

4.  Baking is an Addiction

14 Things About Baking You Don't Know is one of My Baking Addictions

14 Things About Baking You Don’t Know is most definitely an addiction for me. I can honestly say without a doubt that “baking is my happy place.” I enjoy getting in my kitchen and baking cakes and goodies for my family for any occasion. It is a soothing therapy for me.

One of my favorite things to do is take a recipe and make it my own because it is challenging and fun! I produced a recipe years ago that I call my “goulash.” My kids love it, and it’s always a family favorite at get-togethers. 😉

5. Baking is Therapeutic

Baking Is My Therapy being another of 14 Things About Baking You Don't Know

Yes, Baking certainly is therapeutic. If you are having a stressful day or week, measuring out ingredients and mixing them all helps relieve stress and anxiety. It makes me happy knowing that I am creating something beautiful and tasty for my family.

Creating things has been shown to make us happy if we feel out of sorts. Also, it gives us a feeling of accomplishment and triggers our senses of smell, touch, taste, and then, finally, seeing our result. So, the next time you feel anxious or stressed, try Baking. Baking will help you feel more relaxed, happier, and enthusiastic about life. Not to mention it can give you a sense of personal growth. 😁

6. Baking is Precise

14 Things About Baking You Don't Know- Why Precision Baking Is Important

14 Things About Baking You Don’t Know may have you wondering why Baking is so precise? Because when you measure all your ingredients out and have your oven set to the correct baking temperature and time set, your Baking becomes like a science. If you follow your recipe step by step, you will produce the same results every time.

The correct amount of flour, eggs, oil, sugar, etc., is critical to the product’s taste and the proper consistency and density. When we are baking, we wear different hats. That must be why a chef’s hat is so tall because we are scientists, biologists, artists, painters, and sculptors. Dang, we are so talented! 😊

7. Baking is Forgiving

Another of my 14 Things About Baking You Don't Know is Baking is Forgiving

No, Baking is not very forgiving! Instead, you ask for a disaster if you don’t measure the ingredients and take shortcuts. Baking is a science because you are mixing exact amounts of flour, sugar, eggs, oil, etc., together, guesstimating is a big No-No. So, if you are baking cookies and trying to take shortcuts, you may wind up with cookies hard as rocks.

On the other hand, cooking is more forgiving. You can usually get away with adding whatever ingredients that you want to a recipe and make it your own. Baking, not so much. With Baking, the slightest miscalculation could mean a flat, dense cake should you forget the eggs. And the taste would be awful! 😝

8. Baking is Challenging

14 Things About Baking You Don't Know is Baking is Challenging

Yes, Baking can be incredibly challenging. But, not to worry, practice makes perfect (well, almost perfect). We are human, and I can guarantee you that you will still make some mistakes along the way. I have been baking and cooking for 46+ years, and I still make mistakes at times. So, it doesn’t matter if you are a seasoned pro or just starting; you will make mistakes. When that happens, chalk it up to experience and a lesson well learned.

Because Baking requires exact measurements and the correct baking times make it more difficult. At the same time, whatever you are cooking can usually be saved if you make a mistake by modifying your recipe. Flour is one of the ingredients that can make them dry and challenging if you add too much to your cookies. Add too much flour to your biscuits, and they will be dry and crumbly. 🤦

9.  Baking is Rewarding

Baking is Rewarding with the 14 Things About Baking You Don't Know

Oh gosh, yes! Baking can be extremely rewarding because you can create all kinds of delicious treats for your family and friends. It helps relieve stress and anxiety and gives me a sense of well-being and accomplishment. And it also lifts my mood.

Lord only knows after the pandemic we have had in the last two years; I can honestly tell you that Baking, and cooking have helped me a lot! Another wonderful thing about Baking is you can spend quality time with your kids and teach them a great lesson. Who knows, they may grow up to be famous chefs. 👩‍🍳

10. Baking is Delicious

14 Things About Baking You Don't Know is Baking is Delicious

Baking cakes, cookies, pies, etc., is so delicious. Nobody can deny that! There is nothing better than a piece of cake and a good old cup of coffee, except enjoying it with family and friends. You can bake up some deliciousness that no one can resist when you have suitable recipes. ☕

11. Baking is Beautiful

Baking is Beautiful

This beautiful cake says it all! Yes, Baking is gorgeous. Even if your cake does not look like the above picture, it is still a beautiful form of art that you created. To me, Baking is not about how beautiful the goodies turn out to be, but how much fun and thought I put into it.

Watching my family eating and enjoying what I bake is beautiful to me! 😊

12. Overmixing is Bad

Cake Sunk In The Middle

The number one mistake people make when mixing up their cake batter. Overmixing results in a dense cake. That is weak and will fall in the middle, as in the picture above. The taste of an overmixed cake is disgusting. Once you overmix, there is nothing you can do to fix it. So, guess what? That means you will have to toss the cake and start all over. Bummer!

I will use flour as an example; if you mix the flour into the butter, mix it until no more white flour is showing. Then you will know the flour is incorporated with the butter. Always follow your recipe step by step. Never skip over the numbers because you will be asking for a disaster. 😣

13. Baking is Versatile

Muffins

When I think of versatility with Baking, I think of muffins. Muffins are a popular breakfast item for many people, including me. You can get them in sweet form or spicy. People can find something in a muffin to satisfy most fussy eaters.

With muffins, you can add almost any flavor you can imagine. I love maple muffins with bacon on top. When my son-in-law first introduced me to them, I thought he had lost his mind! But once I tasted that sweet and salty taste of the bacon, OMG, it was awesome! So, don’t be afraid to try assorted flavors of muffins. You may be deliciously surprised. 🤤

14. Baking is Fun

Baking is most definitely fun. I enjoy baking cookies for Thanksgiving and decorating them with my grandkids. It is so much fun to see the colors they produce and their designs on the cookies. They enjoy it too.

The holidays are my favorite time to get in the kitchen and bake cakes, cookies, pies, etc., for gift giving and for all the family get-togethers. 🤗

Conclusion of “14 Things About Baking You Don’t Know

CAKE AND COFFEE

5 Things Everyone Gets Wrong About Baking

Help

** This post also contains affiliate links, and I will be compensated if you purchase a product after clicking on a link at no extra cost to you. Thank you!

“5 Things Everyone Gets Wrong About Baking,” even me! Hey, Ya’ll, this week we are going to explore why we get these things wrong.

Baking is a science. It’s not an exact science, but there are guidelines that you need to follow to ensure your success. If you don’t follow these guidelines, your baking will not turn out the way you want it to.

In this post, we are going to explore 5 Things Everyone Gets Wrong About Baking that people make. So, if you are guilty of any of these mistakes, don’t worry, you are not alone!

1. Not reading the recipe in its entirety before you start baking.

Chef Reading A Recipe About 5 Things Everyone Gets Wrong About Baking

This is the number one that I see all the time. It is essential that you read the recipe in its entirety before you start mixing everything together. This is so you won’t make mistakes like missing steps and ingredients. This can be a disaster! Believe me, I have done this and ended up having to pour out the ingredients and start all over again! Not only did I waste time, but I wasted money because I had to discard my ingredients because I didn’t read the recipe first. 😫

2. Not measuring the ingredients properly.

Measuring Cups And Spoons Is One of The 5 Things Everyone Gets Wrong About Baking

This is another hazard that can be avoided if you take the time to measure the ingredients correctly. For example, when I measure out my flour, I pour a little more than I need into my measuring cup and then take my offset stainless-steel spatula and make the flour even with my measuring cup. That way I am sure if the recipe calls for one cup that’s what I have. I do the same thing if it calls for two cups. PLEASE use your measuring cups and measuring spoons so that you know you are getting the right amount of ingredients. 🙄

3.  Not preheating the oven or using the wrong oven temperature.

Preheated Oven

Preheating your oven is one of the most important things you can do while baking and making sure you set it to the right temperature for whatever you are baking. Preheating the oven to the right temperature to bake your cake, cookies, pies, meat, etc. to a golden brown and bring all those wonderful flavors together for an awesome taste. For example, if you don’t preheat your oven when baking a cake, it must stay in longer and will make the cake very dense and heavy and dry it out. 😲

4.  Using the wrong baking pan.

This can be awful as well. Imagine baking, let’s say, a birthday cake and you use too big of a pan it will look so thin and flat. Know how I know this? Yep, you guessed that right, I have done that crap before. No fun! Then of course I had to start all over again! I didn’t pay attention to what size pan the recipe called for when this happened to me. Case in point, read that recipe all the way through so you can avoid mistakes. Also, if you use too small of a pan, you will have the cake all on the sides of your pan and in the bottom of your oven. 😡

5. Use baking soda instead of baking powder.

Baking Soda And Baking Powder

This can also be a disaster in the making. Because these two are made up differently chemically speaking, this can be bad. So, if you use too much baking powder, instead of baking soda, your cake will taste bitter and won’t be as fluffy. If you use baking soda instead of baking powder, you could wind up with a messy oven and a horrible-tasting cake. 😝

Conclusion of “5 Things Everyone Gets Wrong About Baking.”

Baking Gone Wrong

As you can see from reading the “5 Things Everyone Gets Wrong About Baking,” how important it is to read your recipes all the way through before you start your mixing and baking process. These things are extremely easy to avoid if we just stop and take the time to read our recipes.

I know that we live in a fast-paced world, but when it comes to cooking and baking, take your time to slow down, relax and enjoy what you are doing. You will make fewer mistakes and have a blast!

So, get out there and get your baking on and most of all enjoy! 😉

Donna's Yummy Cornbread
Nana’s Yummy Cornbread

** This post also contains affiliate links, and I will be compensated if you purchase a product after clicking on a link at no extra cost to you. Thank you!

6 Easy Steps to the Best Cornbread Ever! I want to talk for a minute about cornbread. I’m sure you’ve had some, so you shouldn’t need a description of the taste, but I am going to describe it to you anyway! Then I will tell you how to make it.

It is by far one of the tastiest ways to use up that half of a leftover bag of cornmeal. Personally, I have never tired of making it and eating it. Always a buttery flavor and soft with a slight crunch of the crust around the edges. Are you salivating yet?

When you know how to make cornbread right (and I’m darn sure that I do) then you have access to a delicious staple food that is perfect with just so many dishes!

Follow my 6 Easy Steps to the Best Cornbread Ever! Your family and guests will be impressed for years to come. Enjoy!

1. Acquire a Cast Iiron Skillet

Cast Iron Skillet for Baking 6 Easy Steps the Best Cornbread Ever!

They are inexpensive, durable, and easily heated on the stovetop or in the oven. This is necessary for cooking delicious cornbread and many other dishes. As you can see in the above picture, that is a picture of one of the cast iron skillets I use for my cornbread. I love to cook in cast iron pots, Dutch ovens, and cast-iron frying pans.

2. Get Yourself a Good Recipe

Southern Buttermilk Cornbread Part of 6 Easy Steps the Best Cornbread Ever!

The recipe is the foundation of any good cornbread. I especially love using a recipe that has been shared with me, tried and true. For example, I loved using my mom’s cornbread recipe until I discovered a new way (for me) to make my cornbread, and it is delicious! It was quite by accident that I discovered this recipe. I will get to that a little later😉

3. Gather the Ingredients

Gather the Ingredients for 6 Easy Steps the Best Cornbread Ever!

Get your White Lily Self-Rising Buttermilk Cornmeal (or whatever cornmeal you use), buttermilk, mayonnaise, butter. I know this sounds crazy, but trust me on this, it is an awesome combination!

4. Measure the Ingredients

Measure the Ingredients for 6 Easy Steps the Best Cornbread Ever!

It’s better to go ahead and measure out everything before you start the mixing process. This helps to save you time and ensures that you are following the recipe correctly and make mistakes less likely to happen. Trust me, once you start doing this process, it will become second nature to you, and you will be glad that you did.

5. Mixing it All Together

KitchenAid Mixer to Mix Up 6 Easy Steps the Best Cornbread Ever!

Now comes the best part, mixing it all together one ingredient at a time. First, you want to pour the measured cornmeal into your mixing bowl, Second, add the butter (real butter is best), now take a dough blender and mix it into the cornmeal until it’s crumbly. Doing this before using a mixer will help it to mix up better. Third, add the mayonnaise and the whole buttermilk and mix until well incorporated. This is where I like to use my KitchenAid mixer, especially if I am fixing a big iron skillet of cornbread.

6. Bake Cornbread

Donna's Delicious Cornbread

You want to pour the cornbread batter into a greased iron skillet and cook (depending on the size of skillet you are using) in a pre-heated oven from 450 degrees to 500 degrees for about 30 minutes or until golden brown. Once that delicious cornbread gets done, enjoy!

Cool on a cake rack for 5 minutes and turnout onto a plate, cut and enjoy!

Conclusion to 6 Easy Steps to the Best Cornbread Ever!

Homemade Rolls

I know you are thinking these ingredients don’t sound good together, but I promise you, this will be the best tasting cornbread that you have ever put in your mouth!

I came by this recipe quite by accident when I ran out of eggs and oil. So, I thought, “Mayonnaise has eggs and oil in it, hmmm why not try the mayo., buttermilk, and butter?” And just like that, my new buttermilk cornbread recipe was born. My family loves it and so will yours.

Below you will find two videos of my cooked cornbread…
