Here are“7 Delicious July 4th Southern Foods” that my family enjoys on Independence Day in the United States. I thought it would be fun to share these dishes. They will make your taste buds happy.

The day commemorates the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. That proclaimed, “all men are created equal.” This established the United States as a nation.

This month we’re celebrating the Fourth of July by eating lots of red, white, and blue foods. We’ve got plenty of recipes for burgers, hot dogs, and other Southern summertime food favorites. Enjoy!

1. BBQ Pulled Pork Sliders

Pulled Pork Sliders With Slaw To Celebrate July 4th Southern Foods

This recipe is perfect for celebrating July 4th. It is easy to make and tastes amazing! This delicious barbeque is slow cooked in chicken broth, cider vinegar, and barbecue sauce and is topped with a crunchy slaw for a tasty easy dish. This will help you and your kitchen stay cool.

Ingredients for Pork:

  • 3 tablespoons packed brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
  • 3 1/2 lb boneless pork shoulder, trimmed of excess fat and cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 3/4 cup chicken broth (from 32-oz carton)
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup barbeque sauce

Slaw:

  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups coleslaw mix

Buns:

You will need 10 buns

Steps:

1. In a small bowl, mix 3 tablespoons of brown sugar, the chili powder, 2 teaspoons of salt, and the pepper. Rub mixture all over pork. Place in 4 1/2- to 5-quart slow cooker.

2. Pour broth and 1/4 cup of vinegar over pork. Cover and cook on High heat setting for 4 hours.

3. In a medium bowl, beat mayonnaise, 3 tablespoons vinegar, 2 tablespoons brown sugar, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Stir in coleslaw mix. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes. Do not extend past 4 hours.

4. Remove pork to a cutting board, and shred using 2 forks. Reserve 1 cup of the cooking liquid. Discard the remaining cooking liquid. In a medium bowl, mix the reserved cooking liquid with barbecue sauce and the remaining 1/4 cup vinegar; return to slow cooker with shredded pork. Cover and cook on a low heat setting for about 20 minutes. (Until warmed).

5. Using a slotted spoon, spoon about 1/2 cup of pork mixture on the bottom half of each bun. Top each with about 1/4 cup coleslaw. Cover with the top halves of buns. NOTE: Pork mixture can be kept warm on a low heat setting for up to 2 hours. Stirring occasionally.

Tips from Nana’s Kitchen:

1. If you like for your pork to have a smokey taste, try adding 1/2 teaspoon of smoked paprika to the pork rub.

2. If you have no time to make the slow, store-bought is a suitable alternative and saves you some time.

2. Nana’s Brunswick Stew

Brunswick Stew Is Another Great Addition For July 4th Southern Foods

This is the perfect recipe to complement your Barbeque Sliders and other side dishes that you have. The flavors of this Brunswick stew are out of this world delicious. You can cook extra pork along with the Barbeque sliders in the above recipe to help save time. I promise you won’t be disappointed. This will quickly become one of your favorite July 4th southern foods.

Ingredients:

  • 3 1/2 to 4 pounds of pork trimmed of fat and already cooked (See the above recipe for the Barbeque Sliders.)
  • 4 large chicken breasts baked in the oven with 3/4 cup of chicken broth and seasoned to taste ( I use the Tony Chachere’s Original Creole Seasoning.) Amazing seasoning. Bake the chicken in a preheated 350-degree oven for approximately 45 minutes.
  • 2 pounds of lean ground beef or turkey
  • 1 roll of Birds Eye McKenzie Yellow Cream Corn, Frozen, 20 oz
  • 1 roll of Birds Eye McKenzie White Cream Corn, Frozen, 20 oz
  • 1-2 cups Barbeque Sauce (I love Sweet Baby Ray’s Original Barbeque Sauce)
  • 2 tablespoons of Hot Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 whole Vidalia onion chopped up
  • The juice of 2 lemons
  • 1-2 large cans of diced tomatoes
  • Salt to taste

Steps:

1. Get your large stock pot ready to use-NOTE: Go ahead and remove the frozen corn from its wrapper and place it in the stock pot with a small amount of water. Turn your stove eye on about #3 or #4 and start to slowly thaw out the corn.

2. Shred your cooked pork and cooked chicken using 2 forks or if you have a Kitchen Aid mixer, you can use the Whisk attachment to shred the pork and chicken. This will save you a great deal of time. Go ahead and place it in the stock pot.

3. Next, take your cooked and drained ground beef or turkey and crumble it up into your stock pot.

4. Pour in your can(s) of diced tomatoes, barbecue sauce, spicy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, chopped-up onion, lemon juice, and salt.

5. Mix all ingredients thoroughly and bring to a boil.

6. Reduce heat to simmer. Cook for about 45 minutes and stir often to avoid the stew sticking to the bottom of the pot.

7. Serve in bowls with crackers, and cornbread, or eat by itself. Enjoy!

Tips from Nana’s Kitchen:

1. Store leftovers in the fridge in a tightly sealed container. The Brunswick stew is good for a week.

3. Grilled Corn on the Cob with Parmesan-Herb Butter

Grilled Corn on the Cob with Parmesan-Herb Butter A Great Addition To July 4th Southern Foods

If you’re looking for some current ideas for grilling food this summer, try grilled corn on the cob. You can grill the corn right in the husk. Serve with Parmesan-Herb butter. This will add a spark to your grilled corn. A terrific addition to your July 4th Southern Foods.

Ingredients:

  • 6 ears of fresh sweet corn, husks removed, cleaned
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill
  • Fresh ground pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup shredded Parmesan cheese (2 oz)

Steps:

1. Go ahead and heat gas or charcoal grill. In a small bowl, mix butter, cheese, dill, and pepper with a fork; set aside.

2. While the grill is heating up, fill a large pot with water. Heat to boiling and submerge corn in water; cook for 3 to 4 minutes.

3. Now remove corn from the boiling water; cool slightly. Drizzle each ear of corn with oil; rub over corn.

4. Next, place the corn on the grill over medium heat. Cover grill: cook, turning ever so often until all sides of the corn are browned. Remove from grill, immediately top corn with butter mixture. Once the butter has melted slightly, serve.

Tips from Nana’s Kitchen:

1. You can cook the corn in its shuck on the grill. Cooking it for several minutes before grilling gives the corn a succulent texture. And this adds the flavor of flame-cooked goodness.

2. It is best not to husk your corn until you are ready to grill it. For the freshest ear of corn, leave it wrapped in its husk until minutes before you’re ready to serve it. It is messy, but boy is it delicious!

4. Nana’s Lighter Potato Salad

Donna's Lighter Potato Salad Will Become One Of Your Favorite July 4th Southern Foods

Don’t let this lighter potato salad fool you. It is chocked full of flavor and oh so satisfying! Easy to make and will save you lots of fat and calories. Your guest will not have a clue it is on the lighter side. You will be making this one of your favorite July 4th southern foods.

  • 6 medium red potatoes (2 lb.), unpeeled
  • 2 hard-cooked eggs, chopped
  • 2 medium stalks of celery, thinly sliced (1 cup)
  • 1 medium onion, chopped (1/2 cup)

Dressing for the salad:

Steps:

1. Place potatoes in a 4-quart saucepan; add enough water just to cover the potatoes. Heat to boiling. Reduce heat to low. Then cover and simmer for 20 to 30 minutes or until tender. Drain; let stand until cool enough to handle. Cut potatoes into cubes.

2. Next, in a large bowl, place potatoes, eggs, celery, and onion; toss gently to mix. In a small bowl, mix dressing ingredients until well incorporated.

3. Lastly, add the dressing to the potato mixture. Toss gently to coat. Cover; refrigerate for 1 hour or until serving time.

Tips from Nana’s Kitchen:

1. If the dressing is too thick, stir in 1 to 2 tablespoons of skim milk just before serving.

5. Homemade Peach Cobbler

Homemade Peach Cobbler A Wonderful Compliment To Your July 4th Southern Foods

  • 2 teaspoons of vanilla flavoring
  • Milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon of Cinnamon

Steps:

1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.

2. Melt a 1/2 stick of butter in a metal baking pan

3. In a heavy saucepan, combine fresh peeled peaches, 1 cup of sugar, and 1/2 cup of water. Bring to a boil.

4. In a small bowl, combine 3/4 cup of water and 1 heaping tablespoon of cornstarch and add it to the peach mixture. Return to boil.

5. In a mixing bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups of sugar, 1 1/2 cups of self-rising flour, 2 teaspoons of vanilla flavoring, and enough to make a thin batter. (1-2 tablespoons, or a little more if needed).

6. Pour hot peaches into the pan with melted butter and pour the batter all over the peach mixture.

7. Top with cinnamon/sugar mixture, (1/2 cup sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon) and bake for 30 minutes.

Tips from Nana’s Kitchen:

1. If you are pressed for time, then use a 28-ounce can of peaches instead of fresh ones. Note: Make sure you do not drain the juice out of them!

2. I highly recommend using fresh peaches for a delicious homemade taste that you just can’t beat! Don’t forget the vanilla ice cream.

6. Easy Berry and Vanilla Cream Trifle

Easy Berry and Vanilla Cream Trifle Will Become One Of Your Favorite July 4th Southern Foods

It only takes 30 minutes to create this beautiful and delicious dessert of fresh strawberries, blueberries, butter loaf cake, and whipped topping. This one is sure to become one of your favorite July 4th southern foods.

Ingredients:

Tips from Nana’s Kitchen:

2. I used my punch bowl to arrange this beautiful dessert and it made a lovely presentation.

7. Simple Strawberry Shortcake

Strawberry Shortcake Cupcakes Are A Stapel For July 4th Southern Foods

These cupcakes are made with Original Bisquick Mix and topped with strawberries and cream cheese whipped cream. They’re perfect for celebrating Independence Day. Another one to add to your July 4th southern foods menu.

Ingredients for Cakes:

  • 3 cups Original Bisquick Mix
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine softened
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 eggs

Topping:

  • 1 cup whipping cream
  • 1 package (8 oz) of cream cheese, softened
  • 1/3 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 6 cups sliced fresh strawberries (about 2 lb)

Steps:

1. Heat oven to 350°F. Grease the bottom and sides of a 12-cup muffin pan with shortening; lightly flour (or spray the pan with baking spray with flour). In a large bowl, beat cake ingredients with an electric mixer on low speed for 30 seconds, scraping the bowl occasionally. Pour into pan.

2. Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool completely, about 1 hour.

3. In a chilled small bowl, beat whipping cream on high speed until soft peaks form; set aside. In a medium bowl, beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla on medium speed until well blended. Fold in whipped cream.

4. Frost top of cooled cake with whipped cream mixture. If desired, frost the cake. It can be refrigerated for up to 6 hours. To serve, cut the cake into squares; place it on individual dessert plates. Top with strawberries.

Tips from Nana’s Kitchen:

1. Make a sheet cake using the 13×9-inch pan if you would rather, then cut it into squares and top with whip topping and strawberries.

2. You can use this recipe and make it with peaches, blueberries, kiwifruit, raspberries, or your favorite fruit combo. The possibilities are endless.

Using Kitchen Aid Attachments. This week I am going to teach you how to use them.

The KitchenAid Kit is an essential tool for any kitchen, it has many different attachments that allow you to mix things in several ways.

The attachments are used for mixing dough, whipping cream, kneading bread, and much more. Now, check out my tips below. Enjoy!

The Right Tools for the Job

Kitchen Aid Mixer Attachment's, The Right Tools For The Job

If you’re new to using attachments, start with the whisk attachment. It’s easy to use and comes with detailed instructions. Next, move up to the dough hook attachment. Feeling confident enough, try the Flat Beater or Paddle. Each one has different uses and benefits which we will discuss below.

FYI: The above attachments come with the purchase of a KitchenAid Stand Mixer.

Using the Kitchen Aid Whisk Attachment

KITCHEN AID WIRE WHISK ATTACHMENT

The Wire Whisk is used for mixtures that need air incorporated to help them mix up better and be lite, fluffy, and delicious. Ingredients like eggs, egg whites, heavy cream, boiled frostings, sponge cakes, angel food cakes, mayonnaise, and some candies.

For long-lasting results of your Whisk attachment, make sure to wash it after every use. Allow the whisk to air dry for a few minutes, and dry with a soft cloth. Store it in your designated area like a drawer or cupboard.

If your wire whisk is stainless steel, I recommend hand washing in warm soapy water. Allow it to air dry for a few minutes, and dry with a soft cloth. Do not put it in the dishwasher. This will prevent any rust from forming on your attachment. Prolonging its life.

Using the Kitchen Aid Dough Hook

Kitchen Aid Mixer

The Dough Hook mixes the dough. It works by pulling the ingredients through the mixing bowl with the help of the paddle. This process helps to incorporate air into the dough, making it easier to knead.

Use it for mixing and kneading yeast doughs that include bread, rolls, coffee cakes, and buns for quick tasty results.

Wash your dough hook after each use in warm soapy water. The dishwasher causes rust. And this lessens the life of your attachment. Allow it to air dry for a few minutes, and dry with a soft cloth. Store in a drawer or cupboard you have for your baking utensils.

Using the Flat Beater or Paddle

MY KITCHEN AID MIXER

To use the Flat Beater, simply attach it to the beater shaft after you tilt the head of the mixer back. Rotate the beater shaft until it locks into place. Next, lower the head of the mixer into the bowl, and lock the motor head in place. Pick desired speed and start mixing your ingredients. FYI: You use this same process for the above-mentioned attachments.

The flat beater is best for mixing normal to heavy mixtures. Here are some examples: cakes, creamed frostings, candies, cookies, pie pastry, biscuits, quick bread, meatloaf, and mashed potatoes.

Make sure to wash your flat beater in warm soapy water. If it is stainless steel, let it air dry a bit. Dry with a soft cloth, and store in a drawer or cupboard.

FYI: The above KitchenAid Mixer is mine. It comes with three attachments shown in the picture. The flat beater is attached to the mixer my daughter bought me. Notice the rubber on the side? I love it! It helps to scrape the sides of the bowl. You get the stainless-steel flat beater along with the wire whisk and dough hook.

Conclusion of “Using Kitchen Aid Attachments

KitchenAid Spiralizer Attachment

Now that you have finished reading “Using Kitchen Aid Attachments” I know that you are confident that you can do this and have a good understanding of how these three attachments work: the whisk, dough hook, and flat beater or paddle as it is sometimes called.

As you can see the Kitchen Aid Mixer is an indispensable tool for any baker’s kitchen. It can help you get a lot of things accomplished in a brief period, like mixing up cakes, cookies, pie dough, biscuits, cornbread, and even meatloaf!

I absolutely love my Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer and can’t imagine my life without it. For me, it is way better than a handheld mixer. But this is what I prefer because I do lots of baking and cooking around the holidays.

6 Ways to Grill the Perfect Steak Every Time

How to Grill the Perfect Steak Every Time

** This post also contains affiliate links, and I will be compensated if you purchase a product after clicking on a link at no extra cost to you. Thank you!

6 Ways to Grill the Perfect Steak Every Time is just in time for Summer the grilling season. I don’t know about you, but to me, there is nothing better than grilling steak on the grill. Oh, the smell and the flavors! My mouth is watering just thinking about it! is just in time for Summer.

What makes a good steak? Well, it’s a whole lot more than most people think. Most people like their steak medium-rare and with barely any pink in the center. I’m with them and that’s what I prefer. However, that isn’t the only way to like your steak. Most chefs will tell you to take it up a notch. Cook it medium (135 degrees) or even medium-well (145 degrees).

The first thing you need to know about grilling steak is that the size doesn’t matter. The significant difference is that the thinner piece of meat will cook faster than a thicker cut. So, if the lesser cut of steak cooks faster, why worry about it at all? The answer is simple, it’s all in the way you prepare and cook it.

Steak is one of my favorite foods to grill. But I have found that it can sometimes be a little intimidating to keep from overcooking it. I mean, it is a piece of meat, and that meat can burn. So, how do you keep your steak from burning on the grill?

6 Ways to Grill the Perfect Steak Every Time

Grilled Steak On Open Flame
  1. Start with a quality cut of meat This is the most crucial step to getting a delicious, juicy steak. Choose a cut of meat that is at least 1-inch thick, and make sure it has good marbling.
  2. Season the steak generously – Seasoning your steak is key to adding flavor. Use a dry rub or steak seasoning of your choice. Make sure to cover the entire surface of the meat.
  3. Preheat your grill – Getting your grill hot before you start cooking will help you get those perfect grill marks. Aim for a temperature of 400-450 degrees Fahrenheit.
  4. Grill the steak for 2-3 minutes per side For a 1-inch-thick steak. This should be enough time to get it cooked to your desired level of doneness. Remember to turn the steak only once during cooking. Resist the urge to press down on it with your spatula.
  5. Let the steak rest for 5 minutes before cutting it into. This will allow the juices to redistribute throughout the meat. Resulting in a more flavorful and juicy steak.
  6. A good meat thermometer- Will allow you to monitor the internal temperature of the steak as it cooks. If you use an instant-read thermometer, remove the steak from the heat source before taking the reading. You don’t want to overcook your beautiful steak just because you wanted to know what temperature you are at.

If you follow my“6 Ways to Grill the Perfect Steak Every Time” you will be grilling like a pro in no time at all. You will be the talk of the party when your family and friends taste your delicious juicy steaks!

So, what the heck are you waiting for? Get Yō grilling on and enjoy your delicious results! 🤤

14 Things About Baking You Don’t Know

Baking Supplies

** This post also contains affiliate links, and I will be compensated if you purchase a product after clicking on a link. Thank you!

14 Things About Baking You Don’t Know is a fascinating process that yields delicious results. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced baker, there’s always something new to learn. So here are 14 Things About Baking You Don’t Know Enjoy!

1. Baking is a Science

The Science of Baking Is Part Of 14 Things About Baking You Don't Know

14 Things About Baking You Don’t Know is absolutely a science as well as an art. When you add flour, sugar, eggs, oil, etc., you must do this in a sequence of steps that bring you to the same ending, something edible every time.

As a baker, we can think of ourselves as chemists and scientists. Why may you ask? We add different ingredients together in a sequence of steps to create delicious goodies. If done correctly, you can bake it repeatedly.

So, to sum this up, “baking is simply a form of chemistry that results in edible results rather than other chemical solutions or creations.” This quote was brought to you by Delighted Cooking

2. Baking is an Art

Baking Is an Art Another One Part Of 14 Things About Baking You Don't Know

Why is Baking considered an art? Think about this for a moment; if you are adding all these ingredients together and making, let’s say, a cake from scratch, then you are creating art! By the time you cook your cake frost it and decorate it, you have created a beautiful piece of edible art.🎂

We, as bakers, can be compared to an artist who paints or artists that sculpt. A painter creates beautiful pictures for us to look at and enjoy using paintbrushes of assorted sizes and paints of assorted colors.

Sculptors create beautiful pieces of statues, bowls, animals, etc., using molding clay and a variety of tools to shape and mold their sculptures. And they use a firing process for baking clay or sculpture. We bake our goodies just like they do, except we use an oven. 😉

3. Baking is a Trade

Baking is a Trade is another one of the 14 Things About Baking You Don't Know

If you love to bake, why not make a career out of it, and do something you enjoy? Of course, this may require a certification that you can usually obtain by doing an apprenticeship. You can get these through bakeries that offer training such as Publix, Kroger, Ingles, and technical or community college programs to help you obtain an associate degree or certificate. Usually, a college degree is not needed. 👩

Steps to becoming a baker:

  1. Obtain your apprenticeship- through bakeries such as Publix, Kroger, Ingels, and technical or community college programs.
  2. Obtain a business degree- do this only if you are interested in opening your own bakery. You can do this by taking courses in small business management through a continuing education program.
  3. Getting your Certification– certification is not usually a requirement by most employers, however, if you obtain your certification, it will put you ahead of the competition.
  4. Attain additional experience– if you want to advance your career, gain more experience. Learn different techniques and skills that will lead you to own your own business and create high-quality products that you can be proud of.

4.  Baking is an Addiction

14 Things About Baking You Don't Know is one of My Baking Addictions

14 Things About Baking You Don’t Know is most definitely an addiction for me. I can honestly say without a doubt that “baking is my happy place.” I enjoy getting in my kitchen and baking cakes and goodies for my family for any occasion. It is a soothing therapy for me.

One of my favorite things to do is take a recipe and make it my own because it is challenging and fun! I produced a recipe years ago that I call my “goulash.” My kids love it, and it’s always a family favorite at get-togethers. 😉

5. Baking is Therapeutic

Baking Is My Therapy being another of 14 Things About Baking You Don't Know

Yes, Baking certainly is therapeutic. If you are having a stressful day or week, measuring out ingredients and mixing them all helps relieve stress and anxiety. It makes me happy knowing that I am creating something beautiful and tasty for my family.

Creating things has been shown to make us happy if we feel out of sorts. Also, it gives us a feeling of accomplishment and triggers our senses of smell, touch, taste, and then, finally, seeing our result. So, the next time you feel anxious or stressed, try Baking. Baking will help you feel more relaxed, happier, and enthusiastic about life. Not to mention it can give you a sense of personal growth. 😁

6. Baking is Precise

14 Things About Baking You Don't Know- Why Precision Baking Is Important

14 Things About Baking You Don’t Know may have you wondering why Baking is so precise? Because when you measure all your ingredients out and have your oven set to the correct baking temperature and time set, your Baking becomes like a science. If you follow your recipe step by step, you will produce the same results every time.

The correct amount of flour, eggs, oil, sugar, etc., is critical to the product’s taste and the proper consistency and density. When we are baking, we wear different hats. That must be why a chef’s hat is so tall because we are scientists, biologists, artists, painters, and sculptors. Dang, we are so talented! 😊

7. Baking is Forgiving

Another of my 14 Things About Baking You Don't Know is Baking is Forgiving

No, Baking is not very forgiving! Instead, you ask for a disaster if you don’t measure the ingredients and take shortcuts. Baking is a science because you are mixing exact amounts of flour, sugar, eggs, oil, etc., together, guesstimating is a big No-No. So, if you are baking cookies and trying to take shortcuts, you may wind up with cookies hard as rocks.

On the other hand, cooking is more forgiving. You can usually get away with adding whatever ingredients that you want to a recipe and make it your own. Baking, not so much. With Baking, the slightest miscalculation could mean a flat, dense cake should you forget the eggs. And the taste would be awful! 😝

8. Baking is Challenging

14 Things About Baking You Don't Know is Baking is Challenging

Yes, Baking can be incredibly challenging. But, not to worry, practice makes perfect (well, almost perfect). We are human, and I can guarantee you that you will still make some mistakes along the way. I have been baking and cooking for 46+ years, and I still make mistakes at times. So, it doesn’t matter if you are a seasoned pro or just starting; you will make mistakes. When that happens, chalk it up to experience and a lesson well learned.

Because Baking requires exact measurements and the correct baking times make it more difficult. At the same time, whatever you are cooking can usually be saved if you make a mistake by modifying your recipe. Flour is one of the ingredients that can make them dry and challenging if you add too much to your cookies. Add too much flour to your biscuits, and they will be dry and crumbly. 🤦

9.  Baking is Rewarding

Baking is Rewarding with the 14 Things About Baking You Don't Know

Oh gosh, yes! Baking can be extremely rewarding because you can create all kinds of delicious treats for your family and friends. It helps relieve stress and anxiety and gives me a sense of well-being and accomplishment. And it also lifts my mood.

Lord only knows after the pandemic we have had in the last two years; I can honestly tell you that Baking, and cooking have helped me a lot! Another wonderful thing about Baking is you can spend quality time with your kids and teach them a great lesson. Who knows, they may grow up to be famous chefs. 👩‍🍳

10. Baking is Delicious

14 Things About Baking You Don't Know is Baking is Delicious

Baking cakes, cookies, pies, etc., is so delicious. Nobody can deny that! There is nothing better than a piece of cake and a good old cup of coffee, except enjoying it with family and friends. You can bake up some deliciousness that no one can resist when you have suitable recipes. ☕

11. Baking is Beautiful

Baking is Beautiful

This beautiful cake says it all! Yes, Baking is gorgeous. Even if your cake does not look like the above picture, it is still a beautiful form of art that you created. To me, Baking is not about how beautiful the goodies turn out to be, but how much fun and thought I put into it.

Watching my family eating and enjoying what I bake is beautiful to me! 😊

12. Overmixing is Bad

Cake Sunk In The Middle

The number one mistake people make when mixing up their cake batter. Overmixing results in a dense cake. That is weak and will fall in the middle, as in the picture above. The taste of an overmixed cake is disgusting. Once you overmix, there is nothing you can do to fix it. So, guess what? That means you will have to toss the cake and start all over. Bummer!

I will use flour as an example; if you mix the flour into the butter, mix it until no more white flour is showing. Then you will know the flour is incorporated with the butter. Always follow your recipe step by step. Never skip over the numbers because you will be asking for a disaster. 😣

13. Baking is Versatile

Muffins

When I think of versatility with Baking, I think of muffins. Muffins are a popular breakfast item for many people, including me. You can get them in sweet form or spicy. People can find something in a muffin to satisfy most fussy eaters.

With muffins, you can add almost any flavor you can imagine. I love maple muffins with bacon on top. When my son-in-law first introduced me to them, I thought he had lost his mind! But once I tasted that sweet and salty taste of the bacon, OMG, it was awesome! So, don’t be afraid to try assorted flavors of muffins. You may be deliciously surprised. 🤤

14. Baking is Fun

Baking is most definitely fun. I enjoy baking cookies for Thanksgiving and decorating them with my grandkids. It is so much fun to see the colors they produce and their designs on the cookies. They enjoy it too.

The holidays are my favorite time to get in the kitchen and bake cakes, cookies, pies, etc., for gift giving and for all the family get-togethers. 🤗

Conclusion of “14 Things About Baking You Don’t Know

CAKE AND COFFEE

I hope you have enjoyed “14 Things About Baking You May Not Have Known,” learned something you didn’t know and walked away feeling better about baking those goodies.

Remember, always follow your recipe step by step, and you should be fine. So, get out there and get your Baking on and enjoy it. I know you can do this!

5 Things Everyone Gets Wrong About Baking

Help

** This post also contains affiliate links, and I will be compensated if you purchase a product after clicking on a link at no extra cost to you. Thank you!

“5 Things Everyone Gets Wrong About Baking,” even me! Hey, Ya’ll, this week we are going to explore why we get these things wrong.

Baking is a science. It’s not an exact science, but there are guidelines that you need to follow to ensure your success. If you don’t follow these guidelines, your baking will not turn out the way you want it to.

In this post, we are going to explore 5 Things Everyone Gets Wrong About Baking that people make. So, if you are guilty of any of these mistakes, don’t worry, you are not alone!

1. Not reading the recipe in its entirety before you start baking.

Chef Reading A Recipe About 5 Things Everyone Gets Wrong About Baking

This is the number one that I see all the time. It is essential that you read the recipe in its entirety before you start mixing everything together. This is so you won’t make mistakes like missing steps and ingredients. This can be a disaster! Believe me, I have done this and ended up having to pour out the ingredients and start all over again! Not only did I waste time, but I wasted money because I had to discard my ingredients because I didn’t read the recipe first. 😫

2. Not measuring the ingredients properly.

Measuring Cups And Spoons Is One of The 5 Things Everyone Gets Wrong About Baking

This is another hazard that can be avoided if you take the time to measure the ingredients correctly. For example, when I measure out my flour, I pour a little more than I need into my measuring cup and then take my offset stainless-steel spatula and make the flour even with my measuring cup. That way I am sure if the recipe calls for one cup that’s what I have. I do the same thing if it calls for two cups. PLEASE use your measuring cups and measuring spoons so that you know you are getting the right amount of ingredients. 🙄

3.  Not preheating the oven or using the wrong oven temperature.

Preheated Oven

Preheating your oven is one of the most important things you can do while baking and making sure you set it to the right temperature for whatever you are baking. Preheating the oven to the right temperature to bake your cake, cookies, pies, meat, etc. to a golden brown and bring all those wonderful flavors together for an awesome taste. For example, if you don’t preheat your oven when baking a cake, it must stay in longer and will make the cake very dense and heavy and dry it out. 😲

4.  Using the wrong baking pan.

This can be awful as well. Imagine baking, let’s say, a birthday cake and you use too big of a pan it will look so thin and flat. Know how I know this? Yep, you guessed that right, I have done that crap before. No fun! Then of course I had to start all over again! I didn’t pay attention to what size pan the recipe called for when this happened to me. Case in point, read that recipe all the way through so you can avoid mistakes. Also, if you use too small of a pan, you will have the cake all on the sides of your pan and in the bottom of your oven. 😡

Baking Soda And Baking Powder

This can also be a disaster in the making. Because these two are made up differently chemically speaking, this can be bad.
