Cook up a big batch of elbow macaroni in boiling water with a teaspoon of salt and vegetable oil until al dente. Combine the cooked noodles with shredded cheddar cheese and butter, then pour into a baking dish.

Sprinkle a topping of Parmesan cheese and crunchy panko breadcrumbs before baking until golden brown. Serve this delicious cheesy treat warm for maximum pleasure!


2. Homemade Chicken Pot Pie.

This hearty and delicious dish is a family favorite of Nana’s. What you will need: 2 cups of shredded chicken, 2 cups of frozen mixed vegetables, 1 can (22.6 oz) Cream of chicken soup, 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour, 1 stick of butter melted butter.

Start by seasoning your chicken breast with your favorite seasonings. Put the chicken in a cooking dish and place in a 350-degree oven for 40 minutes, let cool. Shred the cooked chicken, I use my Kitchen Aid Mixer to do this for me. It is so much easier and faster.

Meanwhile, cook your frozen veggies on the stove as directed on package and drain. Next, heat the oven to 425°F. Stir together soup, vegetables, flour, melted butter and shredded cooked chicken.

Spoon into crust-lined pan. Top with second crust; seal edges and flute. Cut slits in several places in top crust.

Bake 30 to 35 min or until the crust is golden brown. Cover edge of crust with Wilton Pie Crust Shield
to prevent excessive browning. For best results cook on a Pizza Stone. The pizza stone prevents soggy crust.

3. Nana’s Chocolate Chip Cookies.

Who can resist the timeless sweet goodness of chocolate chip cookies? Nana’s chocolate chip cookie recipe is sure to please even the pickiest of eaters. What you will need: 3/4 cup packed brown sugar, 1/2 cup butter, softened, 1/2 cup canola oil, 1 teaspoon vanilla, 1 egg, 2 cups all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 3/4 cup miniature semisweet chocolate chips or dark chocolate chips.

Start by heating the oven to 375°F. In a large bowl, beat sugars, butter, oil, vanilla, and egg with electric mixer on low speed until blended.

Next, beat in the flour, baking soda and salt until well blended. Finally, add semi-sweet chocolate chips and voilà! On ungreased cookie sheet, (or parchment paper) drop dough by rounded measuring tablespoonfuls about 2 inches apart.

Bake 7 to 9 minutes or until light golden brown (centers will be soft). Cool 1 minute; remove from cookie sheet to cooling rack. Makes 42 cookies.


4. Nana’s Famous Simple Chili Recipe.

Looking for an easy and hearty chili recipe? Try Nana’s famous simple chili. What you will need: 1 lb ground beef (at least 80% lean), 1 cup chopped onions, 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped, or 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 tablespoon chili powder, 2 teaspoons chopped fresh or 1 teaspoon dried oregano leaves, 1 teaspoon ground cumin, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon red pepper sauce, 1 can (14.5 oz) organic diced tomatoes, undrained, 1 can (19 oz) red kidney beans, undrained or pinto beans.

FYI: I prefer to cook my own dried pinto beans. This way I can use my own seasonings that I love.

Next, in 3-quart saucepan, cook beef, onions and garlic over medium heat 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until beef is thoroughly cooked; drain. Now, Stir in chili powder, oregano, cumin, salt, pepper sauce and tomatoes.

Heat to boiling over high heat. Reduce heat just enough so mixture bubbles gently. Cover; cook 1 hour, stirring occasionally.

Lastly, stir in kidney beans. Heat to boiling over high heat. Reduce heat just enough so mixture bubbles gently. Cook covered about 30-45 minutes, stirring occasionally, until desired thickness. For a variety of tastes, try sprinkling sharp cheddar cheese on top, sour cream, and Fritos instead of crackers. Enjoy!

One of Nana’s beloved recipes is her classic Sunday roasted chicken with Herb Gravy. Begin by preheating your oven to 350 degrees and then season a 5-pound chicken liberally with salt, pepper, and herbs.

Place the chicken in a greased roasting pan and add cut potatoes, carrots, and onions around the chicken for added flavor. Bake for 1 1/2 hours or until cooked through then prepare the gravy.

In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium-low heat before adding flour to create a roux. Slowly whisk in low-sodium chicken broth and bring to a boil while stirring constantly before reducing heat and simmering until thickened.

Finally, add fresh chopped herbs such as rosemary, thyme, and oregano for flavor to the gravy before pouring over the roast chicken. Enjoy!

Start by preheating your oven to 350 degrees F. Then grease your cake pan by using Pam Spray with Flour. Next, start by creaming the butter flavored Crisco with the real butter. Then add the eggs one at a time, beating after each.

Now, sift cake flour, salt, and baking soda; add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk. Pour your batter into your greased and floured 10″ tube pan.

Bake at 350 degrees F. for 1 hour and 10 minutes. Cool on cake rack for 10 minutes and turn out of pan onto cake rack. Serve with cool whip and strawberries, delicious. Enjoy with a cup of coffee.

This is one of the hardest things for me to do! I know, right? There is no shame in asking for help! I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, so I can’t do the things I used to do and that has been hard for me. Thankfully, my youngest daughter has taken over a lot of the cooking I use to do for the holidays. Now, don’t get me wrong, I still bake my cakes and cookies, because I am not willing to give that up yet! Lol! Oh, and my hubby cleans up my messes. Bless his heart!

Oftentimes a mix will be cheaper than buying all the ingredients separately. While you can use a mix for half of a recipe, adjust the other ingredients accordingly. You can also substitute alternative ingredients for the featured ones. If a recipe calls for onions or garlic that are out of season, or if you just don’t have any on hand, try using shallots or garlic powder instead.

Nana’s Top 6 Silicone Mats – A list of my favorite silicone mats that you are going to love. You will wonder how you ever baked without them.

I have always struggled with making sure that my baked goods don’t stick to the baking tray (Cookie Sheet). Crisco was the best I could do, but this new product takes things to a whole new level.

I still remember being so mad after spending ages carefully rolling out my latest cookie recipe, putting it in the oven, and finding that it had stuck to the baking tray.

It was so frustrating. Ever since I got the baking tray liners, none of that has happened. This little invention has made my life so much easier and means that I can even bake when I’m in a hurry.

When I’m working with the flexible silicone baking tray liner, it goes in easily, and is easy to clean up afterwards. I love the way that it makes your baking experience much more efficient. It also reduces wastage because you don’t need to grease the baking trays ahead of time anymore.

I can remember licking the bowl after she was done making a cake. I’m not exactly sure why I was doing that, but I’m sure it was because it tasted good.

I don’t know how old I was, and I don’t remember it being something that my mom made me do.

She thought I did it on my own, but I don’t know. The point is that she taught me how to bake, and it has become a passion of mine.

The Joys of Baking for me are all thanks to my mom. She was an awesome mom, baker, and cook.

When my mother introduced me to the world of cooking, I quickly learned that baking was my forte. I have always loved making cookies, but have you ever wondered how some people can just make a cookie that melts in your mouth? And then you find yourself going back for more?

Yes, it does take a bit of practice, but if you follow my techniques, you will realize how easy it really is to make the perfect cookie.


1. Follow the Recipe

This is the most important one of all, the recipe! If you don’t follow the recipe step by step, I can promise you it will be a flop. And nobody wants that to happen.

If you are going to take the time to bake cookies or anything for that matter, you may as well do it right the first time. Although this may seem like a small step, it is (to me) the most major step in the baking process.


2. Flour: All-Purpose or Self-Rising

Yes, my baker’s, the flour DOES matter. I can tell you this from my many years of baking. I have used both in my cookie recipes and trust me when I tell you that All-Purpose flour works best for cookies unless it specifies Self-Rising.

Every time I used the self-rising flour my cookies would never turn out the same. Once I made the switch to All-Purpose flour, they turned out to be the perfect taste, texture, and consistency. Imagine that!


3. Baking Soda or Baking Powder

Most cookie recipes use baking soda and some use baking powder. I prefer baking soda because it is the most conventional raising agent in cookies.

You can use baking powder, but just know that your cookies will have a more cake-like consistency. And that will be fine if that is the way you want them.

Using baking soda will make them good and chewy.


4. Butter, Butter, and Butter

Oh, my goodness, there is nothing like the rich creamy taste of REAL butter. It is better than margarine. If all you have on hand is margarine, it will also work.

Now, if you ever try real butter in your cookies or other recipes calling for butter, honey you will never go back to margarine. Trust me! My favorite butter to get in the entire world is Amish butter.

Now that’s some good eating. It is rich and creamy. If you keep your butter in the fridge, set it out for about 15-20 minutes to get it to room temperature. Soft butter mixes up better in your dry ingredients.

Pushed for time? Microwave the butter for 15-30 seconds. Melting it will make a softer chewier cookie.


5. What about Eggs?

If your cookie recipe calls for eggs, lay your eggs out for about 20-30 minutes. This helps them mix up better in the batter.

This helps your cookies to have more volume and will turn out better and prettier. Plus, your eggs will mix up with the dry ingredients much better.

I prefer brown eggs to white eggs. Brown eggs are richer and make desserts taste richer.


6. Brown Sugar or White Sugar

For me, I like to use whatever the recipe calls for. However, you can mix them by using half white and half brown for a delicious taste.

This gives your cookies an almost Carmel-like taste. Now, when it comes to peanut butter cookies, brown sugar is best if you have it.

The suitable sugar for the right recipe gives your cookies a chewy or crunchy texture we all love.
